Exploring the Botanic Gardens in Mt Coot-tha was never on our list, in fact before we came to Brisbane we never knew that they were a thing. We visited on a cloudy, yet humid, Sunday afternoon not really expecting too much. It has been recommended to us before but on the other hand it was also described as ‘boring’ and something we didn’t need to see. However, these gardens ended up being one of our favourite experiences thus far.

Whenever I thought of Brisbane at home, one of the first places that sprung to mind was the Gold Coast, particularly Surfers Paradise. I imagined it as the place to be with plenty of things to see and do with busy beaches with music playing, white sands and blue sea. Incredible Sunset at The Glass House Mountains

On the way down to the Sunshine Coast last week, we were greeted by incredible views of three mountains in the distance. We had no idea what they were, but we knew we’d have to take a trip and discover what they were. The Glass House Mountains haven’t been mentioned to us before. If it wasn’t for travelling to Mooloolaba, it’s likely we would never have known about this gorgeous spot just off the motorway.

North Stradbroke Island
When I think of Australia, I picture beaches, Koala bears and Kangaroos, and during our first week of our year abroad, we took a trip to North Stradbroke Island, Queensland, hoping to experience all three, never expecting to witness what we did. We didn’t appreciate how lucky we were to see Koalas and Kangaroos in the wild until we spoke to several Aussies who had still never seen them out of a zoo or sanctuary.
